DESCRIPTION:Chanco on the James is excited to announce this year’s Lenten Retreat\, “Parables & Paintings.” Together\, we will look at four different parables which Jesus taught and explore them through the lens of paintings done by James B. Janknegt. These paintings are meant to foster rich conversation\, which will be done in both large and small group settings. This program will feature several different activities and are designed for ages 16+. We hope you’ll join us for this time of fellowship and reflection during the Lent Season. Our retreat will be facilitated by Rev. Keith Emerson\, Rector at St. Paul’s Suffolk. We are also thrilled to announce that Rev. Melody Perdue\, Associate Rector at Eastern Shore Chapel\, will lead our music and worship time. Then it’s time to register for this year’s Lenten Retreat\, “Let Love Be the Desert.” Led by Angier Brock\, the retreat will invite us to step away from busy-ness and fatigue to enter a quiet space where scripture\, poetry\, and reflection can nourish us. The retreat will include journaling\, group discussion\, and silence\, with time after lunch for walking Chanco’s labyrinth\, strolling through the woods\, engaging in a quiet indoor reflective activity\, or simply sitting. Those wishing to spend some time outdoors should wear clothes and shoes suitable for that day’s weather.\n  \nAngier Brock\, a veteran retreat leader\, is a communicant of Grace Church\, Yorktown\, where she serves as an EfM mentor and a Centering Prayer facilitator. She has an MA in Christian education and an MFA in creative writing\, and several dozen of her hymn and anthem texts have been set to music by both English and American composers and sung in a variety of churches in the U. S. and abroad. DESCRIPTION:Fall Weekend is an opportunity for youth to come together with friends from all over the Diocese and to spend time in retreat with God. \nYouth in grades 6 through 12 are invited to join us for a weekend of camp fun and fellowship as we explore not only what it means to be an Episcopalian\, but how we share our faith with others. The EYC board has been exploring why faith matters today and are excited to share what they learned with the youth of the Diocese.
