Presenters will include members of our diocesan creation care team and local community organizations. Come learn about the theology of creation care\, how to put creation care into practice in your own life\, listen to a panel discussion\, and join us in worship. \nMusic will be performed by Kevin Brown\, Chief of the Pamunkey Indian Tribe\, and Tim Lucas. \nTime is built into the schedule to enjoy Chanco’s beautiful property on the James River\, pray the stations of the cross\, walk the labyrinth\, or sit and make your own walking stick. \nParticipants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. \nPlease contact Cameron at programs@chanco.org or call us at 888-7CHANCO (724-2626) with any questions. \nRegister Now\n  \nMeet Our Musicians\nKevin Brown is Chief of the Pamunkey tribe of King William County\, Virginia. He was elected in November 2008 and let the tribe for seven years\, during its lengthy quest for federal recognition. Brown\, born in Pennsylvania\, has spent nearly every summer at the Pamunkey reservation as a child\, and has lived and worked there since he was 18 years old. Brown is also an artist whose pottery and sculptures are part of the permanent collections at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C. and the Sioux Indian Museum in Rapid City\, S.D. He has worked for “Akwesasne Notes” and traveled with the renowned activist group the White Roots of Peace in the 1970s. \n  \n  \nTim Lucas was born and raised in Richmond VA\, has been married to his wife Lucia for 45 years and has lived all around the States for the tech startups that he has founded\, but always comes back to Virginia. His heritage is an eclectic mix of tribal cultures including Native American (Southern Tuscarora)\, Viking and Celtic but says his primary heart language is always Native and to be truly home is to be with Native friends. As a musician\, Tim is a Native American flute player\, drummer and percussionist whose venues include a few years playing with Broken Walls a Native American Music Ministry\, drumming and singing at pow wows\, leading worship in churches\, playing flute at private Native events and ceremonies\, occasional sessions in the recording studio and more recently playing with Blackwater Agency – a band that defies description and is well known to those that know it well!

DESCRIPTION:Cost of Private Room — $160.00 \nCost of Shared Room — $120.00 \nThis program is designed for adults 18 and up.\nExhausted? World weary? ADVENT CALLS US to inner renewal as we quiet ourselves and prepare again for the coming of Jesus into our hearts. But how exactly does that work in demanding and disturbing times that often leave us feeling overly busy\, confused\, anxious\, disillusioned\, and distrustful? This retreat invites us to ponder such things as we reflect on scripture\, acknowledge our experience\, do some journaling\, and engage in gentle large and small group conversations. We will also do some drumming on Friday night and take time for silence after lunch on Saturday when there will be an opportunity to stroll through the woods\, walk Chanco’s labyrinth\, make a collage\, or simply sit quietly and breathe deeply. \nThis program is designed for adults 18 and up; dinner\, breakfast\, and lunch are included. Please bring a journal and writing tool\, a small rhythm instrument if you have one (drums will be provided)\, walking shoes\, and clothes appropriate to the weather. We begin with check-in on Friday at 5\, have dinner at 6\, and gather in the Spirit Center at 7. The retreat will end on Saturday around 4:30. \nAngier Brock\, a veteran retreat leader\, is a communicant of Grace Church\, Yorktown\, where she facilitates a weekly Centering Prayer group on Zoom; and she plays in the handbell choir at Bruton Parish\, Williamsburg. A journal keeper for nearly fifty years\, she also writes poetry (including hymn and anthem texts)\, personal collects\, and reflective prose. With an MA in Christian education and an MFA in creative writing\, she has long been interested in the connection between spirituality and creativity—and she sees Advent as a particularly fertile time for weaving the two together.
